Help me make my Eco Travel mission a reality!

1 Aug

I’ve never been good at asking anyone for help and I’ll admit it’s not the best quality to have particularly as an aspiring entrepreneur who wants to do something to change the world.

As much as I like to think I’m Wonder Woman who can do everything on my own the reality is I can’t.  Unfortunately there are not enough hours in the day and apparently sleep is a necessity for human survival.  On top of that as much as I wish it, I’m also not China’s legendary Monkey King who seemingly can pick up skills in what ever area necessary.

But it’s time I change my ways and start asking for help!

Over a year ago whilst living in China I came up with the concept of Eco Wise Travel a website that would serve as a hub for travellers of all ages, interests, needs and budgets to plan Eco friendly travels by providing a transparent network of Eco friendly and ethically run accommodation options, tour operators and volunteer opportunities in sustainable development around the world. Read more here.

The idea was born out of a desire to travel Eco friendly and a frustration in finding it so difficult to find such options within my low budget particularly in Asia where I spend most of my time travelling.

I hated feeling powerless, I hated knowing that my travel habit was doing the world more harm then good and I was determined to change that. I figured If I was thinking this way, surely there must be other people feeling this way too!

So here I am after spending the past year on a fulfilling, yet frustratingly challenging journey to make this mission a reality. From the challenges of webdesign and teaching myself the ever confusing PHP code language (a constant battle), to trying to raise the profile of my cause through social media to blogging and the tedious but essential job of tracking down those accommodation, tour operators etc who really, truly were making positive steps toward being Eco friendly.

It’s been tiring and it’s been draining trying to juggle all this work with my day job, then volunteering at the Saelao Project in Laos to then taking the risk of giving up my day job and risking financial insecurity to focus on this mission.

But here I am having just officially launched and with a long list of things of things to do to publicize it. Though the launch is just the beginning of the journey, I have so many things I already want to improve to the functionality of the site and so many more countries and listings to add (to date I’ve focused on Asia, an ever popular travel region where Eco-tourism is rapidly developing yet most travellers are un-aware of these positive developments!)

So here I am sucking up my pride and letting go of my Wonder Woman complex and asking you for help to make my Eco Travel mission a reality!

Here are a few different things you can do to help me bring this mission to the world…

Spread the word!

Tell everyone about it! The more people we reach the more that can be changed.  If you have a blog write a post about it. If you have a Facebook page share it with your fans. If you have Twitter tweet it to your followers.  If you do I’d be happy to return the favour, just let me know! sasha(at)ecowisetravel.com

Write for the Eco Wise Travel Blog!

If you’re a writer/blogger I’m looking for people to contribute to the new Eco Travel Lifestyle blog that will be launched in early September.  Topics you could write about are wildlife travel, ethical travel, sustainable eating (eg. Your favourite organic restaurant or street food…), a volunteer experience or anything related to Eco/sustainable travel, I’m always open to new ideas!

Hire me to do graphic/webdesign for you!

In order to keep working on building up Eco Wise Travel I need to continue to shun the day job which means I’m not exhactly financially stable.  While I’m hoping Eco Wise Travel can provide me an income in the future but at the moment it’s not and at this time that is certainly not my focus, my focus is on building up a great Eco travel network! While I focus a majority of my time on Eco Wise Travel on the side I’m also a freelance graphic/webdesign and writer so if you or someone you know needs a blog makeover or an article on unique travel experiences in Asia then send them my way!

The world can be changed by one person’s idea but it’s the community that makes that idea become a reality!

If you would like to help out in whatever way you can I would love to hear from you! You can drop me an email at sasha(at)ecowisetravel.com
